The Street

by Richard W. Webb

verse 1

I drove my car to the end of the street. I went around the bend.
I heard a sound like I never heard before: things comin’ to an end.
Trumpets blarin’, it filled the air, sound comin’ from everywhere.
I stopped my car in the middle of the street. I fell out like the tide.
I looked up and guess who I saw: I saw Jesus comin’ for his bride.

verse 2

I still remember more than twenty years ago, I heard him knock at the door.
He said he’d come to change my life all around, like I’d never been before.
I let him in and he started on me, now I’m not what I used to be.
He worked a miracle so many years ago, and I was born again.
He cleaned the slate and I got a new start, and I can still remember when.

chorus

Since that time I’ve been watching for him, oh, with my eye to the sky.
Said my Jesus, oh, how I adore him. Oh, my, my, my, my, my!

verse 3

So there I stood in the middle of the street, rememb’rin’ where I’d begun.
I raised my voice and I sang out loud, "Come, Jesus, come."
Just like a cloud we filled the air, saints flyin’ everywhere.
I left my car in the middle of the street. I won’t be needin’ it no more.
I’m headed for New Jerusalem. I’ll meet you on the other shore.
I’ll meet you on the other shore. I’ll meet you on the other shore.

scripture

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 — [16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

John 3:28-30 — [28] Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. [29] He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. [30] He must increase, but I must decrease.

Revelation 19:7-9 — [7] Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. [8] And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. [9] And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Revelation 3:20 — Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

2 Corinthians 5:17 — Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Revelation 22:20 — He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Revelation 21:1-5 — [1] And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. [2] And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. [3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. [4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [5] And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
