City Comin’ Down

by Richard W. Webb

verse 1

I been to Vegas, and I been to L.A.
You may think those places rock. I don’t care what you say.

chorus

There’s a city,
Ain’t here now but it’s comin’ down.
Let me tell you a little about it,
Talkin’ ’bout New Jerusalem.

verse 2

You see it’s bigger than New York City, brighter than Tokyo.
Now I ain’t never seen it, but you know that I know that I know.

chorus

There’s a city,
Ain’t here now but it’s comin’ down.
And I can’t hardly stand it,
I’m waitin’ to be Glory bound.

bridge

Now John saw it first in a vision he had.
He was in the Spirit on the day of the Lord.
He saw the end of death, saw the end of fear,
Saw the end of heartache and the end of all my tears.

solo (like chorus)

verse 3

You can keep your Vegas, Tokyo, New York, and L.A.
You may think they rock but they’re only made out of clay.

chorus

Ah, but there’s a city,
Ain’t here now but it’s comin’ down.
Just a little bit of Heaven here on earth.
Talkin’ ’bout New Jerusalem.

scripture

Revelation 21:1-7 — [1] And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. [2] And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. [3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. [4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [5] And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. [6] And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. [7] He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Hebrews 11:8-10 — [8] By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. [9] By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; [10] For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Revelation 22:5 — And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

Revelation 21:23-25 — [23] And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. [24] And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. [25] And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

Revelation 1:9-10 — [9] I John, who am also your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. [10] I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet . . .
